We were asked this week to watch one of the following movies-, Rudy, Door to Door, October Sky or Cool Runners. I do plan on watching all of them but this week I chose to watch “Door to Door”. To be honest, I had no idea what the movie was about so it caught me off guard as I was really touched by this movie.
Bill Porter was born with Cerebral Palsy. He went on to becoming a well-known successful door-to-door salesman. His Mom taught him Patience and Persistence and on his first day of work even had it written in bold red letters on his sandwich. One side PATIENCE and the other PERSISTENCE.
You see, Bill Porter had a DMP (Definite Major Purpose) backed by a burning desire and that was he wanted to be self-sufficient and not a burden to his Mom or society. He did not want charity. He wanted to make his own way and in the process he helped many people in his own quiet way. As his Mom was realizing she was losing her memory she said to her son “I’m a burden on you” he then replied, “then we are even”. He was gifted with his mannerisms and unique way of pure honesty.
His PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) was incredible even when the door was shut on him so many times in his life. He was persistent beyond measure and teaches us that if we believe in something strongly it doesn’t matter how many times the door shuts in our faces as long as we believe and know we are doing the right thing.
Bill also had an MMA (Master Mind Alliance), which included his Mom, and people who became his friends-, one special person who worked with him and others who through the years realized that he was a person you wanted to be associated with. He was the thread of the neighborhood. I don’t want to give away this beautiful story, but I do want to warn you that it tugs at your heart but for all the right reasons
Here is a trailer version of “Door to Door”:
